Turkish
Earthenware
All of the pottery at Yali is old, ranging from 40-50yrs to over 100.
They were used as storage for all types of foodstuffs from water and
oil to fruit and meat, prior to the introduction of electricity and
refrigerators.
Ceramics
and Pottery
All ceramics are hand made and hand painted in Turkey. They include
plates and bowls, ashtrays, jugs, coasters etc and acoustic balls.
These acoustic balls are made to be hung in the mosques (by the thousands)
to reduce the echo due to the lack of furniture and fittings. A new
range of ceramics are painted by NIMET who is Turkeys well known and
acknowledged as its best ceramic artist.
Marble
Most of the marble items are fittings from old Turkish bath houses
that have been demolished.
Kilims
and By Products
Yali stocks both new and old Kilims (flat weaved carpets). Many are
handmade. Some kilims have been made into shoes, bags and footstools.
Candle
Lanterns and Candle Sticks
- Brass Candlesticks - These are copies of old palace and mosque sticks.
- Lanterns - Copies of old palace and mosque lanterns and modern designs.
Copper
Old copper kitchen utensils gathered gathered from farms and villages
all over Turkey.
Wood
Old Chests chests, doors, trays, bowls, jugs, cupboards, bread trays.
Fountains
Cast iron wall fountains and tap stands. Marble basin and stands.
